"Our primary task is the rapid provision of military aid to Ukraine."
This was written by the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, in a letter to the leaders of the 27 EU member states before the summit on March 21 and 22, the Guardian reported.
"Entering the third year of Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine, we are facing a pivotal moment. Urgency, intensity and unwavering determination are imperative. Our primary task is the rapid provision of military aid to Ukraine and, based on recent initiatives such as that of the Czech Republic, the accelerated procurement and delivery of ammunition to Ukraine," Michel stressed.
"During the summit, leaders should focus on the effective implementation and enforcement of our sanctions, as well as advancing our efforts to use the windfall from frozen assets," Michel said.
The President of the European Council also said that the summit will focus on defence, the Middle East and agriculture.
"We must also help the defence industry access private and public funds and reduce regulatory burdens and obstacles." Building this strategic security posture requires strong leadership and a keen understanding of the urgency of the threats we face. I expect our European Council to respond to this," Michel wrote.
"The atrocities of the October 7 attacks and the subsequent war in Gaza have crossed the line into the inhumane." Too many civilians died. Too many innocent lives are at risk due to the catastrophic humanitarian situation in Gaza and the raging famine. International law must be fully respected. A permanent ceasefire is urgently needed to protect the civilian population, allow the hostages to return safely and ensure that humanitarian aid can be delivered if needed," said the President of the European Council.
"Our European farmers have voiced their concerns loud and clear. We must act decisively on the challenges they face. This means taking stock of the work done so far and ensuring immediate progress, particularly on the position of farmers in the food supply chain and fair competition both domestically and globally," he added Michel./BGNES
