Portugal defeat Scotland after Cristiano Ronaldo's goal number 901

Cristiano Ronaldo scored the 901st goal of his professional career to give Portugal a late 2-1 win over Scotland at home in a Nations League match.

In Lisbon, the visitors surprisingly took the lead in the 7th minute with a goal by Napoli midfielder Scott McTominy, but the "sailors" made a complete turnaround after the break.

Bruno Fernandes equalized in the 54th minute after a long-range shot and a weak intervention by Scotland goalkeeper Angus Gunn, and Ronaldo, who appeared on the break, made the final 2:1 in the 88th minute after a cross from Nuno Mendes. Thus, Portugal recorded a second consecutive success in Group A1, while Scotland continued their weak performances in recent months and are now without success in eight consecutive official matches.

In the other group game, Croatia beat Poland 1-0 in Osijek.

European champions Spain thrashed Switzerland 4-1 away from home despite playing with less than 20 minutes of the game after centre-back Robin Le Normand was sent off. Fabian Ruiz scored twice for La Furia, while Joselu and Ferran Torres added one each.

The leader in group A4 with full asset points is the team of Denmark after success over Serbia with 2:0 at home.
