Europeans are worried about the return of US President-elect Donald Trump, while people in other regions of the world are much more positive about his second term, according to a new survey.
From India and China to Brazil and Turkey, more respondents said they expected Trump to be good for their countries and for "peace in the world", a survey by the European Council on Foreign Relations shows.
The optimistic mood is particularly strong in the world's most populous country, India, where more than 80% of respondents gave a thumbs-up to Trump's return.
By comparison, the assessment of the future is far less enthusiastic in the 11 EU countries participating in the social survey. There, respondents expect the US president to be damaging to Europe and world peace.
"When Donald Trump returns to the White House, much of the world will welcome him with joy," say the authors of the survey, conducted in conjunction with the Oxford University research project "Europe in a Changing World".
In Europe, anxiety is widespread, but people in many other countries feel either relaxed or actively positive about Trump's second term.
Just over 28,500 people in 24 countries took part in the survey, which was conducted last November after Trump's election victory.
Outside the EU, the populations of long-time US allies Britain and South Korea have a relatively negative perception of the incoming Trump, who has promised to bring a swift end to the war in Ukraine three years after Russia's full-scale invasion.
Despite fears that the future US leader could force Kiev into an unfavourable agreement, 33% of respondents in Ukraine think Trump's election is good for world peace, compared to 18% who think the opposite.
