"Personally, I believe that a process of reconciliation with the Bulgarians should begin".
This appeal to the Macedonian authorities was made by the Polish ambassador to North Macedonia Mariusz Brymora in the programme "360 degrees" , reports BGNES.
Since 1 January, Poland has held the presidency of the Council of the European Union.
On the proposals of the government of Christian Mickoski to make the entry of Bulgarians in the Constitution of North Macedonia with suspended action, the diplomat answered categorically: there is no indication that Brussels or Bulgaria will change their position on this issue.
"I am not sure that this proposal can be effective. The new EU enlargement commissioner Martha Kos, as you heard, said she expected Macedonia to implement the constitutional changes. It is all about the old Latin principle in international law - pacta sunt servanda, which means that treaties must be respected," the Polish ambassador in Skopje stressed.
Brymora said that representatives of the Polish foreign ministry will soon visit Sofia, where, among other things, the situation with North Macedonia will be discussed.
"But it's up to you to start talking and agree to compromise. In addition, in my opinion, and I speak on the basis of the Polish experience, there is another factor that is very important, and that is reconciliation. Personally, I think that a process of reconciliation with the Bulgarians has to start because, as far as I know, the problem that is blocking progress in EU enlargement is part of a much wider and much longer historical dispute," the Polish diplomat added. | BGNES
