A Japan Airlines plane was on fire on the runway at Tokyo's Haneda Airport after a possible collision with a coast guard plane, Japanese television reported.
NHK footage showed the plane taxiing down the runway before an explosion of orange flames erupted below and behind it.
All 367 passengers on board the "Airbus" plane were evacuated, broadcaster NHK reported.
The cause of the accident was not immediately clear, but television reports said the plane had collided with a Coast Guard aircraft.
A coastguard official at Haneda Airport, one of the world's busiest, said they were "checking details".
"It is not clear if there was a collision. But it is certain that our plane was involved," he told AFP.
Television footage showed flames coming from the windows and the plane's nose on the ground as rescue workers worked.
There was also burning debris on the runway.
More than 70 fire trucks were sent to the scene, NHK reported.
