Peruvian prosecutors seized three Rolex watches as part of an investigation against the president

Peruvian prosecutors have seized three Rolex watches and a bracelet at the heart of the scandal surrounding President Dina Bolwarte. She said the items were loaned to her, Yahoo News reported.
Bolwarte is under investigation after she was spotted wearing luxury jewelry in a scandal dubbed "Rolexgate" that rocked her unpopular government.
She told prosecutors last week that she made a "mistake" by accepting the watches from her "friend", Ayacucho Governor Wilfredo Oscorima, and returning them.
Oskorima's lawyer said the watches and bracelet - the brand of which was not specified - were seized when he presented them to prosecutors as part of the investigation.
"The prosecutor's office has decided to confiscate without a court order. The argument is that the property can be lost," said lawyer Umberto Abanto.
Boluarte also denies owning Cartier and Van Cleef & Arpels jewelry, which a media investigation says she wore to official events.
"Everything that was said is false," the Peruvian president said after testifying before prosecutors for five and a half hours.
The head of state has an approval rating hovering around 10% and has endured a difficult period in office since taking over in 2022 from Pedro Castillo.
In 2023, prosecutors opened an investigation in which she was accused of "genocide, murder and grievous bodily harm" for the deaths of more than 50 protesters during the suppression of demonstrations demanding her resignation and the calling of new elections./BGNES
