Organizers of the Paris Olympics have refused to issue more than 4,300 accreditations due to security concerns, French Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin has announced.
Over 100 of the applications in question were rejected because the applicants were deemed to be foreign spies. A major concern was the threat of cyberattacks by ill-wishers who received accreditation for the Olympics. "In most cases, it is not a question of traditional attacks or espionage, but the danger remains that they will use the computer network for cyber attacks," announced Darmanin.
"We refused a large number of "journalists" who claimed to cover the Games. But we approved the presence of Russians who work for the International Olympic Committee," said the minister, who added that there will still be Russian journalists in Paris who passed security checks.
