Oscar nominations 2024: Oppenheimer is the favorite for the big prize

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced its nominations for the 2024 Oscars. The nominees were announced by actors Zazie Beetz and Jack Henry Quaid.
Christopher Nolan looks set to win his first Oscar at next month's ceremony after his latest film, Oppenheimer, picked up 13 nominations.
The biopic about Robert Oppenheimer, the scientist behind the atomic bomb, is nominated in a total of 13 categories, including best picture, director, adapted screenplay. Stars Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr. and Emily Blunt are also in contention for the awards. Nolan, who has previously been nominated for five Oscars, is also a favorite at next month's Bafta awards.
The nine other films vying for the top prize are Cord Jefferson's American Fiction, Justin Trier's Anatomy of a Fall, Greta Gerwig's Barbie, Alexander Payne's The Holdovers, The Killers Martin Scorsese's Flower Moon, Bradley Cooper's Maestro, Celine Song's Past Lives, Yorgos Lanthimos' Despicable Me and Jonathan Glazer's Zone of Interest.
Triet, Scorsese, Nolan, Lanthimos and Glazer were also recognized in the Best Director category.
Box office champs "Barbie" ($1.4 billion worldwide) and "Oppenheimer" ($952 million worldwide) will help draw viewers to this year's telecast.
Martin Scorsese, meanwhile, secured his 10th best director nomination for true crime epic Killers of the Color Moon, which is also nominated for original screenplay. Stars Lily Gladstone and Robert De Niro will compete for the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor.
Almost 11,000 industry professionals from 93 countries vote for the Oscars. This year's Academy Awards ceremony will be hosted by Jimmy Kimmel and will take place on March 10.
