After opening offices in London and Dublin, US start-up OpenAI, creator of the hugely popular artificial intelligence tool ChatGPT, will open an office in Paris.
The company has also announced plans to open offices in Singapore, New York and Brussels later this year, AFP reports.
This presence in Paris should give OpenAI "access to French talent," the company said in a statement, adding that it will begin recruiting soon.
"With a team in place, we will be able to work closely with French companies, institutions and developers to help them reap all the benefits of artificial intelligence," said Sam Altman, co-founder of OpenAI.
"This choice reflects the growing dynamism of the French AI ecosystem, which we want to position as one of the world leaders," Clara Chapaz, the new Secretary of State for Artificial Intelligence and the Digital Economy, was quoted as saying in the press release.
Paris will host the next international AI summit in February 2025, with President Emmanuel Macron stating his ambition to make France a major player in the sector.
In mid-September, developer ChatGPT refused to enter negotiations with two French press organisations for paid-for use of content from the 800 titles they represent.
The startup, valued at $157 billion after a big $6.6 billion fundraising last week, is also in Brussels' sights, like all the giants in the artificial intelligence sector.
