One person died and ten were injured after a pole supporting a cable car collapsed near the Turkish resort town of Antalya.
One of the cabins on the Sarisu-Tunektepe line fell into a rocky area in the collapse, Turkish Interior Minister Ali Erlikaya said.
More than 300 emergency personnel, mountain rescuers, climbers, soldiers, gendarmerie and others were sent to the scene of the accident. There are 6 helicopters, 1 military cargo plane, 76 cars and 6 ambulances in the area, Anadolu Agency reported.
The deceased is a 54-year-old Turkish man. Six Turkish citizens and one Kyrgyz citizen were injured. Some of the victims have serious injuries and have been taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. 59 people have already been rescued from the trapped cabins and the massive operation continues with the help of night vision equipment.
A group of 10 opposition MPs also headed to the scene to "investigate the accident in detail," said Özgür Özel, chairman of the opposition Republican People's Party (RPP).
The lift has 36 cabins with a capacity of six people each. The climb to the Tunektepe facility with its panoramic view of Antalya takes an average of nine minutes. /BGNES
