Ollie Watkins predicted the winning goal for England hours before the match

England hero Ollie Watkins revealed he predicted the exact way the Three Lions would beat the Netherlands in last night's Euro 2024 semi-final clash. England advanced to a second consecutive European Championship final after the Aston Villa striker scored the winning goal in the 91st minute of the tie.

"I swear on my life, I swear on my kids, I told Cole Palmer today that we're going to go in at the end and he's going to assist me for the winning goal," a happy Watkins announced in an interview after the 2-1 success in Dortmund. That's exactly what happened on the pitch - coach Gareth Southgate brought on Watkins and Palmer in the 80th minute, and ten minutes later the Chelsea star passed to his teammate, who with an exceptionally masterful performance decided the outcome of the match.

In this way, Southgate once again in the eliminations skillfully used his bench. In the round of 16 against Slovakia, he set up Ivan Tawney seconds before the equaliser, then the Brentford striker assisted the winner in extra time. Against Switzerland, Toney and Trent Alexander-Arnold came on to coolly take their penalties.

"I've been waiting for this moment for weeks. As soon as Cowley took the ball, I knew he was going to look for me with a pass. You have to be greedy for a goal at that moment. One touch and a finishing shot, when I saw the ball go into the corner, it was the greatest feeling," Watkins added. | BGNES
