According to the New York Times (NYT), Israel used US-made bombs in the strike that killed 45 people in the town of Rafah.
The attack was carried out on a camp for displaced Palestinians on the outskirts of the city and sparked outrage around the world.
Ordnance debris photographed at the impact site is the remains of a GBU-39, a bomb designed and manufactured in the US, the NYT found.
US officials are urging Israel to use more of these types of bombs, which they say can reduce civilian casualties."
Trevor Ball, a former US Army explosive ordnance disposal technician, identified the weapon.
Ball emphasized that "a key detail in the weapon debris is the tail actuation system that controls the fins that guide the GBU-39 to the target"./BGNES
