Former world number one Andy Murray has joined Novak Djokovic's coaching staff for the Australian Open early next year. Murray ended his career earlier this year but is now returning to the sport to work with Djokovic during pre-season training and at the first Grand Slam tournament of the year.
The Serb has a record 10 Australian Open titles, beating his good friend Murray in the final four times. "I'm looking forward to spending time with Novak on the same side of the net for variety," the Briton said in a statement.
Djokovic announced the news with a video of the two, posted on X. "He didn't like being retired anyway. We've been playing against each other since we were kids, we've had a 25-year rivalry. We've had epic battles, I thought our story was over, but it turns out there's one last chapter," the record Grand Slam champion wrote. "It's time for one of my greatest rivals to come to my corner," he added.
Djokovic and Murray have played 36 times against each other, with the Serb leading the rivalry 25-11. | BGNES
