Norway will provide Ukraine with new contributions, including funding, to improve the country's air defences, Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre said, quoted by the "Kyiv Independent".
Ukraine's air defences have come under great pressure in recent months amid Russian missile and drone attacks and delays in US aid.
Store said there were "significant sums" that would go towards Ukraine's air defences, but did not specify the exact amount.
"We will come back to this issue when we present the revised budget. It is expensive, but preserving peace and freedom costs money. Those who pay the highest price are Ukraine and Ukrainians," Store said.
The prime minister added: "Building air defences takes time. That means you have to send air defences from your stockpiles."
It was not immediately clear how much of Norway's new contribution would be financial and how much would consist of military equipment.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said on April 19 that NATO allies have committed to providing Ukraine with more air defence systems, including the Patriot. Stoltenberg added that he could not comment on the specific number of new instalments at this time.
Norway has recently increased its efforts to increase the production of defence products both for domestic needs and to support Ukraine. In January, Oslo allocated NOK 2 billion for this purpose.
According to data from the Institute of World Economics in Kiel, which monitors international aid to Ukraine, Norway has committed 7.5 billion euros to Ukraine from February 2024. /BGNES
