North Korea has delivered 7,000 containers of ammunition to Russia

North Korea has supplied Russia with about 7,000 containers of ammunition and other military equipment for the war in Ukraine since last year, AFP reports.

South Korean Defense Minister Shin Won-sik said this at a press conference, hours after North Korea fired several short-range ballistic missiles toward its eastern waters this morning. A few days ago, South Korea and the United States concluded their military exercises in the region.

Won-sik explained that ships were initially used for the deliveries and now rail infrastructure.

North Korea, Shin pointed out, received 9,000 containers in return that contained food, fuel and military aid to strengthen its military.

UN Security Council sanctions strictly limit North Korea's imports of oil and petroleum products.

As of early 2022. Pyongyang has used the diversion of public attention to the Russian invasion to step up weapons tests and is trying, through Moscow, to which it has presented itself as a close collaborator, to break out of diplomatic isolation and join a united front against the United States.

U.S. and South Korean officials have accused North Korea of supplying Russia with artillery shells, missiles and other equipment for its war of aggression against Ukraine in recent months and that the supplies have accelerated since a September summit between Kim Jong Un and Russian President Vladimir Putin. / BGNES
