Nikki Haley withdraws from the US presidential race

Former US Ambassador Nikki Haley is expected to drop out of the primary, leaving Donald Trump as the only Republican candidate for the presidential nomination, US media reported.

She is expected to announce her decision in a speech around 3:00 PM GMT from the South Carolina state capital of Charleston.

She will not announce today that she is endorsing former President Donald Trump, sources familiar with her plans told CNN.

Instead, Haley will urge Trump to earn the support of voters who supported her. That plan appears to leave it open for her to endorse Trump before November's general election.

Haley has emerged as former President Donald Trump's only challenger in the Republican primary campaign, and while he won 14 of 15 contests on Super Tuesday, she thwarted a possible outright victory by winning in Vermont.

In all of the Republican primaries on Super Tuesday, Haley won just 43 of the Republican delegates, while Trump won 764. /BGNES
