Nikki Haley has suspended her campaign for the White House, declining to endorse former President Donald Trump.
Haley, however, called on Trump to win the trust of moderate and independent voters who supported her in the primaries, CNN reported.
"It is now up to Donald Trump to win the votes of those in our party and beyond who did not support him, and I hope he does," Haley said in a televised address from Charleston, South Carolina.
Haley was Trump's main rival for the GOP nomination, but won only one state on "Super Tuesday" and has never posed a major obstacle on Trump's path to the nomination.
She was little known outside her native South Carolina before she was appointed ambassador to the United Nations in 2017. She used the high-profile post to build an image as a staunch conservative.
Haley prided herself on being the last contender standing between Trump's "chaos" and the Republican nomination for the White House in 2024.
"I am filled with gratitude for the support we have received from across our great country. But now the time has come for me to suspend my campaign. I said I wanted Americans' voices to be heard - I did. I have no regrets," she stressed in her statement today. /BGNES
