Shaun Murphy is the new Masters champion. 10 years after his first title from the Triple Crown event, The Magician once again triumphed over Kyren Wilson 10-7 in the final of the 51st edition of the tournament.
At Alexandra Palace in London, Murphy played a brilliant first session and took a 6-2 lead after making breaks of 94, 65, 134 and 116 points. The world champion from Kettering responded with breaks of 69, 61 and 53, but that 61 proved insufficient in frame number 4. In the evening session, the two shared the first two frames, with Murphy scoring a third hundred of 125. At the 15-minute break, the score was 8-4 in favor of the older of the two Englishmen. Wilson, who is known by his nickname The Warrior, clearly demonstrated his fighting character, taking the next three frames. However, he made a decisive error in the 16th frame, after which Murphy made a break of 55 points, and exactly 100 in the final put an end to the dispute between the two.
Thus Murphy triumphed again in the Masters in his third final in the tournament (losing to Neil Robertson in 2012). Three years later, the Englishman took revenge on the Australian after a convincing 10-2. Earlier this week, Murphy also made a maximum of 147 points in his victory over Mark Allen in the semifinals, and the winner's check is worth 350,000 pounds.
Wilson, for his part, failed to add another major title after the world championship in 2024. He lost in his second Masters final and remains without a trophy from the competition, having also lost to Allen in 2018. | BGNES
