A German defense ministry spokeswoman has confirmed that a secret air force conversation was intercepted after a recording of conversations between senior German military officials about Ukraine was leaked on social media.

"In our judgment, a conversation at the Air Force Division has been intercepted. We cannot say for sure at this time whether changes have been made to the recorded or transcribed version that is circulating on social media," the spokeswoman told AFP.

On a visit to the Vatican, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz promised to quickly investigate the situation surrounding a recording of a conversation between high-ranking German military officials about plans to attack the Crimean bridgehead with the possible use of Taurus missiles that emerged in Russian media.

The chancellor called the incident "a very serious matter" and promised a full investigation into the matter. /BGNES
