Elon Musk met with Argentine President Javier Millay at the Tesla plant in Austin, Texas.
Underneath a photo of the two posted by Musk is written "Libertad," which means "Freedom" in Spanish.
Miley shared in X a shot of him and Musk shaking hands in a conference room, with a message that read: "Long Live Freedom."
Millay and Musk "agreed on the need to free markets and protect the ideas of freedom" and the importance of removing bureaucratic obstacles to business, a presidential spokesman said in a statement.
The libertarian Argentine leader has also offered to ally Musk in his legal battle in Brazil.
X owner Musk is under investigation in Brazil after he accused a Supreme Court judge of censoring social media, calling him a "dictator" and vowing not to obey rulings blocking users found to be spreading misinformation.
According to Miley's spokeswoman, Musk has agreed to participate in an event in Argentina in the near future to promote the ideas of freedom.
Millay, a political outsider who won the presidency in November, is facing pushback in the streets and from some of his own conservative allies.
His government has renewed the debate over Argentina's military dictatorship, questioning its death toll and also pushing for a greater role for the armed forces in solving current security problems.
Argentina is home to large deposits of lithium, used to make batteries like those that power Tesla's electric cars. /BGNES
