Mike Johnson criticized the Senate bill on aid to Ukraine, Israel, and border protection

Republican Mike Johnson, the speaker of the US House of Representatives, said the bipartisan Senate bill for additional funding would not pass the lower chamber. The package combines targeted aid funds for Ukraine, and Israel and for strengthening the US southern border. Its total value is 118 billion dollars.

"If this bill reaches the House of Representatives, it will be dead on arrival," Johnson wrote on the X social network.

The House speaker said the bill was "even worse" than House Republicans expected. He said the document "will not even come close to helping end the border disaster that the president has created."

The US Senate, which is controlled by Democrats, introduced the bill on February 4. The bipartisan initiative, developed with the White House, provides $20.23 billion for border protection, $60.06 billion for aid to Ukraine, $14.1 billion for aid to Israel, and $4.83 billion for assisting partners in the Indo-Pacific region. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell said Republicans could not have gotten a better deal. President Joe Biden supported the bill and called on Congress to come together to pass it./BGNES
