The European Council announced the start of negotiations for the entry of Ukraine and Moldova into the EU. At the same time, Georgia received the status of a candidate member, and Bosnia and Herzegovina will be able to start negotiations if all the recommendations set by the union are fulfilled.
European Council President Charles Michel, host of the EU summit, announced the agreement in a social media post, calling it: "A clear signal of hope for their peoples and for our continent."
"The EU will start negotiations with Bosnia and Herzegovina once the necessary degree of compliance with the membership criteria is achieved," he added.

Sandhu stated that this is a victory for all of us, a new page in our history.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen also welcomed the decision.
"A strategic decision and a day that will remain recorded in the history of our Union. We are proud to have delivered on our promises, and we are happy for our partners," she said.
A European diplomatic source told AFP that Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán had agreed not to attend the chamber when the other 26 leaders supported a consensus decision. /BGNES
