Michel: EU will continue to help Ukraine, whatever it costs us

"The European Union is on Ukraine's side, whatever it costs us. Ukraine's future is in the EU."

This is what European Council President Charles Michel said. His words came during a joint statement with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on the sidelines of the EU leaders' meeting in Brussels, BGNES reports.

Earlier on October 17, Zelensky presented his "Victory Plan" to reporters as he arrived for the Brussels meeting.

"I want to say two things to the Ukrainian people and to you Mr. President. First - the EU is on your side whatever it costs us and we know you need more help, military and financial. This is important, it is necessary and that is why we will have a good discussion to see how we can speed up this process and improve our efforts to help the Ukrainian people - from a military and economic point of view," Michel said.

"Your destiny and the future of Ukraine lies in the EU. In the last month we have made great progress on both sides. I commend your leadership, you and your government and the fact that you are introducing the necessary reforms. We do not underestimate the difficulties at the political level, winter is also coming; many things are happening all over the world. So we need to send a clear message. We have cleared up all the ambiguities and it is your presence here that sends a very specific message. We have cleared any ambiguity, we are on the same side, we share the same dreams and the same values. We admire the courage and the courage of the Ukrainian people and your personal courage. You can count on the EU," added the President of the European Council. | BGNES
