Mexico kicked off their Copa America 2024 campaign with a narrow 1:0 win over Jamaica in a Group B match at the US-hosted competition.
At the stadium in Houston, Texas, the only goal of the match came after the break. After West Ham striker Michail Antonio had a goal disallowed by VAR, the Aztecs scored in the 69th minute through Gerardo Arteaga. Until the end of the match, the Mexicans held their fragile lead.
In the other group game, Venezuela surprised Ecuador and won 2:1 after a comeback. In Santa Clara, California, the Ecuadorians were down to ten men after Enner Valencia was sent off with a straight red card. However, Felix Sanchez's side opened the scoring through Jeremy Sarmiento. However, after the break, Venezuela's numerical advantage gave a result and with goals from substitutes Jhonder Cadiz and Eduard Bello within 10 minutes, they reached the valuable turnaround.
In the next Copa America Group B matches, Ecuador plays Jamaica in Las Vegas and Venezuela faces Mexico in Inglewood. | BGNES
