Meta announces the end of its fact-checking programme in the US

Meta (Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp) is ending its fact-checking program in the United States.

This is a major step backwards in its content moderation policy, its founder and chief Mark Zuckerberg announced, as quoted by AFP.

"We're getting rid of fact-checkers and replacing them with community ratings, like X (formerly Twitter), starting in the US," Mark Zuckerberg said in a social media message.

AFP is participating in more than 26 languages in a fact-checking program developed by Facebook, which pays more than 80 media outlets around the world to use their fact-checkers on its platform, on WhatsApp and on Instagram. | BGNES
