Lionel Messi single-handedly led the list of footballers with the most trophies in the history of the game.
Tonight's Copa America final against Colombia was a sad one for the Argentine genius as he picked up an injury in the first half and had to leave the pitch after the break, but his team-mates won the title after Lautaro Martinez scored in extra time.
The eight-time Ballon d'Or winner now has 45 trophies in his rich career, one more than his former Barcelona team-mate Dani Alves, with whom he shared the top spot so far. That number includes the Under-17 World Cup with Argentina and gold medals at the Beijing Olympics in 2008, giving him a total of six trophies with Argentina. At club level, Messi has won 39 trophies, more of them with Barcelona.
Of course, Messi's greatest triumph remains the World Cup title in Qatar in 2022. | BGNES
