Mel Gibson's Malibu home was destroyed by the Los Angeles wildfires while he was away recording a podcast with Joe Rogan in Austin, Texas.
The Oscar-winning actor and director shared the news during a phone interview with NewsNation's "The Elizabeth Vargas Report."
Gibson said he's doing well since the devastation.
"It's obviously kind of devastating. It's emotional," he said. "You've lived there for a long time and you've had all your stuff. Remember how comedian George Carlin used to talk about your stuff? I had my stuff there and it's like I'm relieved of the burden of my stuff because it's all in ashes," the star said.
He said he was "uneasy" during the podcast with Rogan because he knew his neighborhood was on fire.
"When I got home, the house was definitely not there. I got home and I was like, ‘Well, at least I don’t have any of those pesky plumbing problems anymore,’” the star said.
He said he and his girlfriend evacuated, but she stayed in California while he went to Texas to do a podcast.
“I’ve never seen a place that burned so perfectly,” Gibson says of his destroyed home. “You could put it in an urn.”
Other celebrities, including Milo Ventimiglia, Mandy Moore, Billy Crystal, Jeff Bridges, Paris Hilton, Ricki Lake and Miles Teller’s wife, Kelly, have spoken about the loss of their homes. | BGNES
