Medvedev beats Frenchman Fils to play with Grigor in Vienna next

Daniil Medvedev progressed to the 1/8-finals of the ATP 500 tennis tournament in Vienna after he defeated Arthur Fils 6-4, 6-2 in around one hour and fifteen minutes.

The number one seed and reigning champion from last year played a great match. He broke Fils’s serve three times to pick up a comfortable win. Medvedev served almost perfectly – he had five aces and no double faults.

The number three in world rankings will play next our best male player Grigor Dimitrov, who yesterday eliminated from the tournament Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti in straight sets.

Dimitrov and Medvedev have played seven times already. The Russian leads 5-2, winning their last two matches, including in last year’s semifinals in Vienna 6-4, 6-2. Last time Grigor won a match between them was at Indian Wells back in 2021.

Their match this year in the Austrian capital will start tomorrow not before 15:00 pm Bulgarian time, after the end of Matteo Arnaldi and Andrey Rublev’s match. The winner of Dimitrov – Medvedev will face eight seed Karen Khachanov in the quarterfinals. /BGNES
