Member of the European Parliament (EP) David McAllister has been re-elected as Chair of the European Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee (AFET).
McAllister was the only candidate for the position elected unanimously. After the end of the vote, he pointed out that the MPs were starting their mandate at a time of growing geopolitical tension.
"The MEPs will continue to emphasize the immediate neighbourhood of the EU and the partners in the Western Balkans," emphasized the politician, quoted by RFE/RL.
"We need to maintain a strong transatlantic relationship, regardless of who is in the White House after January. We must contain an aggressive Russia and further increase humanitarian, economic, financial and military support for Ukraine on its path to peace and membership in the EU and NATO," McAllister said.
Last week, Roberta Mezzola, who is part of the European People's Party (EPP) group, was re-elected President of the European Parliament for a term of two and a half years. | BGNES
