Kylian Mbappe broke his nose during France's narrow 1-0 win over Austria at the start of Euro 2024 but will be able to play with a special mask, the French Football Federation has revealed.
Mbappe was injured late in the clash with the Austrians when he collided with defender Kevin Danso in an attempted header before being substituted and scanned. There were fears that he would have to undergo surgery and spend time on the sidelines, but it looks like he will be back, although it is not yet clear when.
"Kylian Mbappe broke his nose during the second half of the Austria v France match this Monday in Dusseldorf. The captain of the French team was initially examined by the medical staff and doctor Franck Le Gall, who diagnosed him with a broken nose. The diagnosis was confirmed during radiological examinations at the hospital in Dusseldorf. Kylian Mbappe has returned to the base camp of the French team. He will undergo treatment in the coming days without undergoing surgery. A mask will be made to allow the number 10 of the French team to consider resuming his participation in matches after a period of treatment", the Federation said in a statement.
Mbappe himself joked on social media, asking his followers for mask ideas. France are among the European favorites and face the Netherlands in their next group stage match on Friday before playing Poland four days later. | BGNES
