Manchester United beat Rangers in the end and are close to the last 16 in the Europa League

Manchester United took a significant step towards qualifying for the last 16 of the Europa League after defeating Rangers 2-1 at home. At Old Trafford, the hosts needed a goal from captain Bruno Fernandes in added time to record a fourth consecutive victory in the competition.

Rangers created the first two chances of the match, but the Red Devils goalkeeper Altay Bayander saved the shots on goal. United then took control of the events and began to fire at the opponent's goal. A goal by Matthijs de Ligt from a corner was disallowed for a controversial foul.

However, early in the second half, Ruben Amorim's team took the lead after Rangers goalkeeper Jack Butland failed to deal with Christian Eriksen's corner kick and sent the ball into his own net. The hosts were in complete control of the game but missed several good chances to equalise, for which they were penalised. Two minutes before the end of regular time, Harry Maguire missed a long ball behind him and Cyril Dressers pierced Byander with a powerful shot on the ground.

However, that was not all in the match. In the second minute of added time, Lisandro Martinez crossed perfectly into the penalty area and Fernandes brought success to his team.

After this victory, Manchester United occupy fourth place in the standings with 15 points, while Rangers are in 13th place with an asset of 11 points. | BGNES
