Mallorca holds off Real Madrid and Mbappe in La Liga opener

Real Madrid took a wrong step in their first game of the new season in the Spanish La Liga. The Royal Club drew 1:1 away to Mallorca in the Balearic Islands.

The game got off to a great start for the champions who took the lead in the 13th minute. The goal came after a Brazilian combination, in which Vinicius Junior passed to Rodrigo, and he, with a firm shot, did not leave any chances to Dominik Greif.

However, Mallorca rallied and, despite falling behind early on, did not give up and restored parity at the start of the second half through Vedat Muriqi. Carlo Ancelotti's men tried to get to the three points but were unable to break down their solid opposition in Kylian Mbappe's official La Liga debut. The Frenchman failed to open his league tally after scoring in the 2:0 win over Atalanta in last week's UEFA Super Cup clash. Real finished the game with ten men after a late straight red card for Ferland Mendy.

For the "white ballet" there is a remedial match against Valladolid at the Santiago Bernabeu, while Mallorca visit Osasuna in Pamplona. | BGNES
