"Times are good for the national team. We feel we are in good shape and we are looking forward to the tournament. We are going there to win the trophy." This was announced by England's central defender Harry Maguire regarding the team's chances of becoming European champions for the first time in its history.
England have some of the best players in the world, including goalscorer Harry Kane, Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham and last season's Premier League No.1 player Phil Foden, and the expectation is that the team will achieve something big in Germany after previously four three years lost the Wembley final against Italy. At the 2018 World Cup, England were stopped by Croatia in the semi-finals, and at the World Cup in Qatar they lost to France in the quarter-finals.
"I think we could have won all three games. Playing a tournament like this is completely different to club football. It's about individual moments and it's important to be ready when the chance comes in front of you. That's exactly the stage for the big players, that bring those magical moments. It's important to be prepared on the day to take advantage of the opportunity to win," said Maguire, who is likely to partner John Stones in the center of England's defence.
England are in the same group as Slovenia, Denmark and Serbia and will play their first game in the competition on June 16 against Serbia. | BGNES
