The U.S. Geological Survey reported that Taiwan was hit by a 6.0-magnitude earthquake on January 21. Local authorities reported three people briefly trapped in a collapsed house and two stuck in elevators, AFP reported.
The shallow quake caused buildings in the capital Taipei to shake. The quake occurred at 12:17 p.m. (18:17 BST) 12 km north of Yujing, a mango-growing area in the south of the island.
No major damage was reported.
Local fire authorities rescued three people, including a child, who were stranded in a house that collapsed in another area near the epicenter.
Elsewhere, one person was injured by falling debris and two people were trapped in elevators. | BGNES
