French President Macron discussed the war in Gaza with the Qatari prime minister and the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Jordan. Options for establishing a Palestinian state were also discussed, AFP reported.
Macron organized the meeting amid growing international concern over the war between Israel and Hamas. The meeting took place hours after the UN's top court ordered Israel to halt its offensive in the Gaza Strip town of Rafah.
Officials discussed "all levers that can be used to achieve the reopening of all crossing points" in Gaza.
The five countries also discussed how to "increase and deepen their cooperation and the effective implementation of the two-state solution, the only effective way to guarantee the peace and security of the State of Israel and to respond to the legitimate aspirations of the Palestinians," the Elysee Palace said .
The French president reaffirmed his disapproval of the Israeli offensive in the Gaza city of Rafah and the new settlements in the occupied West Bank. He also called for an "immediate" ceasefire and the release of "all hostages" in Gaza./BGNES
