Liza Minnelli is to publish a memoir after saying previous film adaptations of her life "were not accurate".
The 78-year-old American actress and singer will release the book in the spring of 2026, which will introduce readers to her career, her struggle with drug abuse and her love life.
Minnelli is one of only 25 performers to have won "EGO" awards (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony), and is the daughter of actress Judy Garland and director Vincente Minnelli.
She is best known for her performances in the 1972 Cabaret, the TV concert film Lisa with A Z, and the 1977 Martin Scorsese musical drama New York, New York.
Minnelli told People magazine: "Ever since I was old enough to put pencil to paper, people have been asking me to write books about my career, about my life, about my love, about my family. Absolutely not. My philosophy was to be told. , when I'm gone. Why did I change my mind?"
She goes on to say in the interview that she thinks documentaries about her career "have misunderstood her" and claims they are made by people who she says "don't know my family and don't really know me".
Minnelli added: "In the end I was pissed as hell. One night at dinner I decided this is my damn story, I'm going to share it with you because of all the love you've given me."
The book was written with the help of Great American Songbook Ambassador Michael Feinstein, who has been Minnelli's friend for 40 years, and will be published by Grand Central Publishing.
Quoting the lyrics of the song Maybe This Time from Cabaret, Minnelli says that "after incredible events and life-threatening battles ... I am truly 'Lady Peaceful, Lady Happy.'
"Thank you all for loving me so much ... for caring about me," she added. "I want you to know that I'm still here, still kicking ass, still loving life, and still creating. So until this book comes out, know that I'm smiling, safe in every way, surrounded by loved ones and excited to see what's just around the bend in life." | BGNES
