Sven-Goran Eriksson realized one of his long-held dreams of managing Liverpool at Anfield by being on the touchline for the legends' charity clash with Ajax on an emotional day on Merseyside. The former England manager, who has been a Reds fan since childhood, revealed he was diagnosed with cancer in January, admitting he had "a year at most to live".
Eriksson was invited by Liverpool to lead a team of Merseyside legends - his coaching staff included former Reds players Ian Rush, John Aldridge and John Barnes - and received a standing ovation from supporters in the stands as he left the the tunnel. The match at "Anfield" was for charity - to raise funds for the LFC Foundation and Forever Reds.
Ajax led by two goals at the break through Derk Boerrigter and Kiki Musampa, but Liverpool scored four times in front of the legendary Kop thanks to Gregory Vignal, Djibril Cisse, Nabil El Zhar and Fernando Torres.
"A lifetime memory. Everyone was a winner today. It was wonderful, absolutely amazing. Everything from the 'You'll Never Walk Alone' anthem to the rest of the game. I think we were the better team even in the first half. You always worry when you lose, but the first half was very strong and we had an extremely good second one. But the big winners were all of us", said Eriksson after the match. /BGNES
