Littler beats Van Gerwen to become youngest world champion in darts history

Sensation Luke Littler became the youngest world champion in history after defeating three-time world champion Michael van Gerwen 7-3 in the final at Alexandra Palace.

Exactly a year ago, Littler burst onto the scene with his great performance at the world championships, where he reached the final but failed to win the title. Last season, he established himself as the best active player and won 10 titles, and now he has consolidated his reputation as the world number 1.

The 17-year-old Littler started the final with a bang and won the first four sets, after which Van Gerwen managed to hang on, but the Englishman did not allow him to think about a turnaround and nailed the final 7-3 with double 16. Thus, Littler improved the record of Van Gerwen, who was previously the youngest world champion, having won his first title at 24.

Littler grabbed a check for half a million pounds for the winner, and also received the "Golden Dart" for the most maximums (180 points) at the world championship. "I can't believe it, really. Everyone dreams of lifting this trophy," he said after the success. | BGNES
