Liam Payne used cocaine, alcohol and an antidepressant before his death

One Direction star Liam Payne used cocaine, alcohol and a prescription antidepressant before fatally falling from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, AFP reports.

Argentina's prosecutor added that three people have been charged with abandoning the British musician in a vulnerable state and supplying him with drugs.

"The results of toxicological tests that were communicated to his family showed that in the moments before his death and during the period covering at least the last 72 hours, there were traces of polydrug use of alcohol, cocaine and a prescription antidepressant in Payne's body," the prosecutor's office stated.

Payne was found dead on October 16 after falling from the balcony of his third-floor room at the CasaSur hotel in the Argentine capital.

An autopsy found that the musician died after suffering "multiple traumas" and "internal and external hemorrhages" from the fall.

Payne's death sparked a global wave of grief and condolences from his family, former One Direction bandmates and thousands of fans.

The prosecutor's office said the investigation had uncovered "illegal conduct" that led to charges against three people, who were not named.

Investigators claimed that one of the three had accompanied Payne daily during his stay in Buenos Aires and was accused of abandoning a man who later died, as well as supplying drugs.

The second suspect is a hotel employee accused of twice supplying Payne with cocaine while he was staying at CasaSur. A third person is also accused of supplying him with the drug on Oct. 14, two days before his death.

The prosecution has ruled out self-harm and "third-party physical interference" as the cause of the star's death, arguing that the injuries he received were consistent with those caused by a fall from a height.

"Payne was either not fully conscious or was in a state of significantly diminished or absent consciousness at the time of the fall," the report added. | BGNES
