Leverkusen beats Dusseldorf to set up German Cup final with Kaiserslautern

Bayer Leverkusen qualified for the final of the German Cup tournament after a decisive 4:0 victory over second-division side Fortuna Dusseldorf in the semi-finals.

At the Bay Arena, the leaders in the First Bundesliga did their job until the break, when three of the four goals fell. Jeremie Frimpong put the Aspirins in front in the seventh minute and then Amine Adli and Florian Wirtz combined for the next two goals in the Fortuna net.

After an hour of play, Wirtz scored once again after a perfectly executed penalty, which shaped the final score. Thus, the Aspirins continue to dream of a treble, leading convincingly in the Bundesliga and being in the quarter-finals of the Europa League. In contention for the trophy, Leverkusen will play Kaiserslautern, who put an end to Saarbrücken's fairytale run in the tournament.

For Xabi Alonso's team, this will be their fifth appearance in the final, with the team having only one triumph, which came in 1993, while Kaiserslautern have two cups in the window - 1990 and 1996. The final at the Olympiastadion in Berlin is on May 25. /BGNES
