Leonardo DiCaprio endorsed Kamala Harris for the US presidential post. The Oscar winner shared a video on his Instagram account in which he openly declared his support for the Democratic candidate.
“Climate change is killing the Earth and destroying our economy, we need a bold plan to save the economy, the planet and ourselves. That's why I'm going to vote for Kamala Harris," DiCaprio said.
DiCaprio's commitment to environmental protection is well-known, and through his founding in 1998, the Leonardo DiCaprio Institute, he has funded many environmental actions and initiatives.
In the post's headline, the star calls the recent devastation from Hurricanes Helena and Milton "unnatural caused by climate change." He then praised Harris' ambitious goals of achieving net zero emissions by 2050 and developing a green economy.
It is noted that as vice president, Harris voted on the Inflation Reduction Act, President Joe Biden's landmark climate law, which passed only with Democratic support.
The actor accused Trump of pulling the US out of the Paris climate accord and abandoning "critical measures to protect the environment."
"Trump continues to deny facts and science. We need leaders who are willing to implement climate policies that will help save the planet, and that's why on November 5th I will be voting for Kamala Harris," the movie star added.
In the days before the election, Harris received support from a number of celebrities, including Taylor Swift, Oprah Winfrey, Meryl Streep, Bruce Springsteen, Chris Rock, Beyoncé and George Clooney. | BGNES
