Leonardo DiCaprio invests millions in Spain's diamond boom

Hollywood star Leonardo DiCaprio is investing heavily in Spain's technological future. The European Commission has given the green light to a grant for a diamond production plant in Extremadura in which the actor has an interest.

The Wolf of Wall Street actor recently landed a starring role in Diamond Foundry Europe, a cutting-edge company that will produce synthetic diamonds in the Spanish town of Trujillo (population: 8 605). DiCaprio personally put some of his own money into the company, along with other serious investors including Vast Ventures, Fidelity and tech mogul Mark Pincus, former CEO of Zynga.

The factory will produce thin synthetic diamonds destined for the semiconductor industry. Considered the perfect alternative to silicon, the tech 'shiny stones' are crucial for power-hungry 5G networks and electric vehicles in Spain and the rest of Europe.

However, the ultra-modern plant comes with a hefty price tag, but it's not all about glitter - the plant promises to 'sparkle' like a green diamond. It will be carbon neutral and run on 100% renewable energy, sourced from its own solar power plant. | BGNES
