Leonardo DiCaprio donates $1 million to rebuild damage from Los Angeles fires

Hollywood star Leonardo DiCaprio pledges $1,000,000 to help with "emergency needs and post-fire recovery efforts" following the devastating Los Angeles wildfires.

The Oscar winner and renowned environmentalist announced his generous donation in partnership with his organization Re:wild and its rapid response program after the California disaster claimed the lives of at least 25 people and destroyed thousands of homes.

The actor, who has won three Golden Globe Awards, shared on his Instagram account:

"The fires in Los Angeles are devastating our city" and explained the funds will be used for "emergency needs and rebuilding after the fire".

The immediate aid will be directed to organizations like the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation, the California Fire Foundation and World Central Kitchen, which help residents of the city.

The donation will also support "frontline organizations that provide much-needed resources to our first responders and firefighters, as well as the people, animals and communities that need them most."

DiCaprio, honored for his performances in "The Aviator," "The Wolf of Wall Street," "Titanic" and other films, said his conservation organization is "uniquely positioned to respond to environmental disasters and emergencies" because it was founded with a group of environmental scientists.

The star's generous contribution will also benefit the California Community Foundation's Wildlife Restoration Fund, which recently received a significant contribution from Desperate Housewives actress Eva Longoria and her foundation. | BGNES
