LeBron James loses first game as 40-year-old

The Los Angeles Lakers lost to the Cleveland Cavaliers 110-122 on the road in Lakers star LeBron James' first game since turning 40.

James became the first player in NBA history to play in the league from a teenager to 40 years old, marking the occasion with 23 points against the team that selected him in the 2003 draft. Austin Reeves led the Lakers with 35 points, 10 assists and 9 rebounds, while Anthony Davis added 28 points and 13 rebounds, but even that wasn't enough against the team with the best asset in both conferences.

For the Cavs, five players scored 15 or more points, led by Jarrett Allen with 27, Donovan Mitchell added 26, and Evan Mobley had 20 points. The team has made at least 18 three-pointers in seven consecutive games.

After their eighth straight win, Cleveland now has 29 wins and 4 losses and leads convincingly in the Eastern Conference, while the Lakers are in 7th place in the West with an 18-14 record.
