Lazio beat a shaken Bayern Munich by a narrow 1-0 in the first leg of their Champions League round of 16 tie.
At the Olimpico in the Italian capital of Rome, the Bavarians had more possession and were more active, but they ended the match without a single shot on target. Late in the first half, Jamal Musiala missed an opportunity after receiving a pass from Leon Goretzka.
The hosts waited patiently for their moment and in the 67th minute, Dayot Upamecano was sent off with a straight red card, and the "eagles" received a penalty. Behind the ball stood Ciro Immobile, who made no mistake for 1:0. The German giants were unable to respond until the end and the pressure on head coach Thomas Tuchel increased after Bayern were also dealt a heavy blow in the Bundesliga title race at the weekend, going down 0:3 away to leaders Bayer Leverkusen. The second leg with Lazio is on March 5.
In Wednesday night's other first round of 16 tie, Paris Saint-Germain took a comfortable lead against Real Sociedad after 2-0 at home. Goals for the Parisians were scored by Kylian Mbappe and Bradley Barcola, for whom it was a debut goal in the most prestigious European club tournament.
