Hollywood actress Laura Dern has praised her colleague Liam Hemsworth in an interview in which she discusses filming intimate scenes in the new Netflix movie 'Lonely Planet'.
The 57-year-old Dern told People magazine that she was "very lucky" to work with 34-year-old Hemsworth as he was "literally the safest person I've been able to talk to about anything in my life."
In the interview, Dern revealed that a strong bond had developed between the two.
"At the time we were doing these scenes, there was nothing we couldn't talk about together and deal with creatively, professionally, with all of that," she said.
However, the couple has also benefited from the presence of an intimacy coordinator, Dern said.
"We've also had great support. We've had many, many discussions," she said.
The intimacy coordinator's role is to support the actor in any intimate acts on set, such as contact kissing, physical touching and simulated sex.
They often plan, choreograph and liaise with the actors and production team to ensure that those in front of and behind the camera feel safe and comfortable in every aspect and stage of the process.
Dern, who won the best supporting actress award at the 2020 Oscars for "A History of Marriage," added that she finds it "amazing ... that film and filmmaking have changed so that everyone feels comfortable in their position and can set boundaries comfortably without fear of losing work or being unpopular."
"Both of us, as young actors, have had many other kinds of experiences in films," she said.
Dern has had a long career in Hollywood, earning Oscar nominations for her performances in "Wild" and "The Wandering Rose" before winning four years ago.
Hemsworth is best known for playing Gail Hawthorne in the "Hunger Games" films. | BGNES
