Kyiv: Ukrainian troops captured more than 100 settlements in the Kursk region

"Ukrainian troops have taken control of over 100 settlements in Russia's Kursk region".

This was stated by the commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian army, Oleksandr Sirsky, Anadolu Agency reported.

"To date, we have taken control of 1,294 square kilometers of territory, 100 settlements located in this area. Also, thanks to the successful actions of our troops, we have significantly replenished the exchange fund," Sirsky said during the Ukraine 2024 forum in the capital Kyiv.

The commander-in-chief claims that Ukraine has launched an operation in Kursk to create a buffer zone to prevent shelling of Ukraine's neighboring Sumy region. He added that Ukrainian troops continued to advance and captured 594 Russian servicemen.

According to Sirsky, Russia is trying to counter Ukraine by withdrawing its troops from other fronts. He added that in this regard, about 30,000 Russian soldiers were transferred to the Kursk region.

Sirsky said Russia was not withdrawing forces from the Pokrov Front in eastern Ukraine's Donetsk region, where he said the situation remained "difficult". | BGNES
