Kristalina Georgieva's second term at the IMF starts today

The decision was taken by consensus in April by the IMF Executive Board. Georgieva also received support from key European allies.

Her priority areas for long-term investment are: climate, artificial intelligence and boosting capital flows in Africa.

During Georgieva's tenure, the IMF has repeatedly helped countries that were struggling financially during the Kovid-19 pandemic and the devastation caused by Russia's invasion of Ukraine, particularly in Europe.

Under a controversial but decades-old agreement between Europe and the United States, the IMF has historically been run by a European and the World Bank by an American citizen. | BGNES
