Klopp returns to football in January, but not as manager

Jurgen Klopp is the new global head of football at Red Bull. The former Liverpool manager has signed a long-term contract and will start in his new role on January 1 next year.

He will be responsible for the strategic management level of the international network of clubs under Red Bull, including RB Leipzig, RB Salzburg and New York Red Bulls. Red Bull CEO Oliver Mintzlaff is mainly responsible for the company's move.

"After almost 25 years on the sidelines, I couldn't be more excited to be involved in a project like this. The role may have changed, but my passion for football and the people responsible for football has not. By joining Red Bull at a global level, I want to develop, improve and support the incredible football talent we have. There are many ways we can do all this, using Red Bull's professional knowledge and experience to take from other sports and industries. Together we can discover what is possible. I see my role mainly as mentoring the coaches and leading the clubs under Red Bull, but ultimately I am part of an organization that is unique, innovative and forward-looking. As I already mentioned, I couldn't be more excited", said the German specialist.

Klopp has been out of work since leaving Liverpool at the end of last season. He spent nearly 9 years at Anfield and returned the Merseysiders to one of the main title contenders in England. Klopp won every single domestic and continental club with the Reds, ending a 30-year wait for a league title in 2020. Following his departure, the 57-year-old German said he did not want to take over a team in the near future. Information appeared that he is one of the candidates for the new England coach.

Klopp has an exit clause from his position at Red Bull that specifically applies to the German national team. He has been tipped as a possible successor to Julian Nagelsmann if the former Bayern Munich boss does not extend his contract, which currently expires after the 2026 World Cup. | BGNES
