"Unfortunately, the attack by Russian drones caused damage and casualties in various regions of Kiev," President Volodymyr Zelensky said.
He added that "constant terrorist attacks on Ukrainian cities prove that pressure on Russia and its accomplices is not enough."
This morning, Ukraine's air force said it had shot down 39 of 71 drones launched by Russia overnight.
The drones were targeting the area of Kiev around the capital, the border region of Sumi, as well as the central regions of Kirovograd and Poltava.
Twenty-one drones were lost and five returned to Russia, the air force said, adding that the drone attack was continuing.
The air force said debris from downed drones damaged houses and apartment blocks in 4 regions, including Kiev, Sumy and the Black Sea region of Odessa.
Kiev's military administration reported that debris from drones shot down by air defense forces fell in 6 regions of the capital, damaging apartment blocks and cars and setting several buildings on fire. They were extinguished.
One policeman was injured, the administration added.
In the Kiev region outside the capital, an 82-year-old woman received shrapnel wounds to the head, officials said.
In a village near the southern city of Kherson, a 40-year-old woman was pulled dead from the rubble after artillery shelling by Russian troops and four people were wounded, including 3 children, Governor Oleksandr Prokudin said.
The Health Ministry said a hospital in Kherson was hit, damaging 2 wards and a laboratory.
The medics and patients were not injured as they took shelter.
